This morning I fed my sourdough starter again. It’s still young, still learning how to come alive, still figuring out how to grow. When I look at it, it doesn’t seem like much is happening. Just a jar of flour and water sitting on my counter.
But every time I stir it, I see tiny bubbles forming — little signs of life that weren’t there yesterday. Quiet growth. Slow growth. Hidden growth.
And standing there with my spoon in hand, I felt that familiar nudge from God:
“This is how I work in you.”
So much of God’s work in our lives looks like nothing at first.
We pray.
We hope.
We try.
We wait.
And sometimes we wonder if anything is changing at all.
But just like that starter, God is moving in ways we can’t always see.
He is strengthening us.
Stretching us.
Preparing us.
Growing something inside us that will rise in its own time.
🌿 A small beginning
Scripture says, “Do not despise the day of small beginnings…” (Zechariah 4:10).
Small beginnings don’t feel impressive. They feel slow. Ordinary. Quiet.
But God loves to start His biggest work in the smallest places.
A jar on the counter.
A quiet morning.
A simple prayer.
A heart trying again.
🌿 A gentle reminder
My sourdough starter reminded me today that God isn’t asking me to be fully risen.
He’s asking me to be willing.
To be fed by His Word.
To be patient with His timing.
To trust that He is working even when I don’t feel it.
And maybe you need that reminder too.

Look for the bubbles.
Look for the tiny signs of life.
Look for the quiet ways God is moving in you.
He is working.
