All Fridays carry a special kind of anticipation, especially this one.
Tonight, Olivia will walk through the door, and I’ll get to see her smile, hear her laugh, and hold her in my arms. A whole weekend with my 23-year-old daughter. A whole weekend of joy.
But before joy arrives, there is work to do.
The guest room needs fresh sheets. The pillows need fluffing. The space needs a little love and a little order.
And this time, it’s harder than usual. The flood in our workout room left us with only one working bathroom. Half the house is without water. Everything feels a little off, a little inconvenient, a little messy.
Yet even here, God is good.
Because the water still runs in the places that matter: the kitchen, the laundry room, the guest bathroom. The places that make hospitality possible. The places that make welcoming Olivia home still beautiful.
It’s funny how God works. Sometimes He doesn’t remove the inconvenience; He simply preserves what we need most.
As I ready the guest room, I’m reminded that preparing for joy often requires effort. Sometimes it means working around broken things. Sometimes it means adjusting expectations. Sometimes it means choosing gratitude in the middle of inconvenience.
But joy is still coming. And the work before joy is its own kind of worship.
🌿 A gentle reminder
God doesn’t wait for perfect circumstances to bless us. He meets us in the imperfect ones. He strengthens us in the inconvenient ones. He surprises us in the messy ones. And He prepares us to receive joy even when the house, or the heart, feels a little flooded.
🌿 Today’s quiet encouragement
As you ready your guest room or any room, let your hands remember this: You are preparing a place for love to rest. You are making room for joy to enter. You are creating space for connection, laughter, and family. And God is already in the details; in the running water, in the clean sheets, in the anticipation, and in the blessing that is on its way.
